Fishing Tackle - How to Improve Your Angling

Fishing Tackle - How to Improve Your Angling

All the fishing tackle in the UK won't make you a better angler. It doesn't matter whether you're using fly fishing tackle, sea fishing tackle or coarse fishing tackle -- no amount of gear is going to give you the experience you need to catch those trophy fish. Here's a brief discussion of some of the intangibles necessary to transform yourself from a good fisherman into a great one.

Knowledge is Power

Whether it's your technique or the habits of the fish you're stalking, you should always be willing to keep an open mind and to learn new methods, tactics and approaches. One of the best ways to do this is to read books and articles by top anglers. Remember that these authors often have accumulated their expertise literally over decades. Reading and applying their advice and techniques provides you with short cuts to experience that otherwise might take you years to acquire.

Document Your Experience

Log both your successes and your failures. This will enable you to repeat good techniques and avoid bad ones. Carry a small notebook and cultivate the habit of noting things like location, weather conditions and time of day -- any information that may help you understand both your successes and your failures. The same goes for your fishing gear. Keep a good record of what works and why. When you visit your local fishing tackle shop strike up conversations with the proprietor and with other customers. They can be a wealth of information about fishing hot spots, equipment and techniques.

Consider Specialising

If you limit your angling to one or two species of fish, you'll be able to concentrate on learning about them in great depth. Another tactic is to concentrate on one species in any given season. Each species requires a specific technique and a different type of fishing equipment. By cycling your specialisation, you'll eventually amass a significant amount of knowledge about a broad range of fish species and how to land them. This experience will give you the confidence to improvise when needed and to try new ideas to keep your technique fresh.

Although your fishing tackle is an important component of your success or failure as a UK angler, don't overlook other aspects such as reading, keeping a log and specialisation that can have a significant positive effect on your overall technique.

Great Smallmouth Bass fishing' 'angling

Great Smallmouth Bass fishing' 'angling

The great smallmouth bass fishing' 'angling trips I took as a young boy in Indiana were some of my fondest memories. The smallmouth bass in the state of Indiana are very easy to find and one good spot is any debris in the water, the fish loves structure. Any structure that is in slow moving water usually holds fish, log jams, logs, rocks, and erosion control structures always seem to have some smallmouth bass. The biggest things I've noticed about smallmouth bass are that they love slower moving water, structure, and bright sunshine. Midday is one of the best times to fish them. The best technique I've found for smallmouth is to use the same one for largemouth bass. The only difference? Use a smaller bait, smaller lure, shorter worm. Think about it. The smallmouth and largemouth come from completely different families but share some of the most tested characteristics.

First of all they both love to eat smaller than their mouths food items. While this leaves the area wide open to the largemouth (obviously) the smallmouth must diet on a lighter menu. Any small insect is fair game with crickets, grasshoppers and even spiders making up most of the insect-world's offerings. The golden rule is if you are a grasshopper, hop away from the edge of the water, the time of death is usually very fast there. This can lead to fly-fishing as a viable way of fishing for the bass up north. If you are new to the fly-fishing world, it would be advisable to enlist the assistance of a proven smallmouth guide with fly fishing experience. The guide will know where the fish are and will also be able to patiently train the novice fly fisherman with the little nuances that are required to fly fish.

Over the years I've found that smallmouth love flies, small crank baits, and tube jigs. Some of the best fish I have ever landed in the city of Indianapolis hit flies that I danced upon the water with my fly rod. I was no expert at controlling the fly and fly fishing' 'angling but I could catch a few regardless. As for color, natural tones such as brown, orange, yellow, olive and black work well in flies. The absolute main food supply for river smallmouth is the crayfish, so colors that imitate crayfish work great. Natural colors in crank baits and tube jigs that mimic crayfish and bait minnows work well but don't be afraid to try off the wall colors like Chartreuse and orange. Sometimes something different works well also. Do not be shy as the small mouth is not.

Smallmouth Bass are accessible and easy to find and unlike most trout streams, warm water streams are relatively closer to home and a great way to beat the doldrums of summer. Pound for pound no other fish fights harder for their size than smallmouth bass so get out and try to hang a few smallmouth bass. You won't be disappointed!

3 Things Every Small fishing' 'angling Boat

3 Things Every Small fishing' 'angling Boat

Are you in the market for a small bass boat? Small bass boats can be a very affordable and effective way to go fishing' 'angling, but there are some things that every small fishing' 'angling boat must have. This article is about those things. As a matter of fact, this article will list 3 of the most important aspects every small fishing' 'angling boat needs to have.

Although a small boat is much less expensive than a traditional boat, you can still expect to pay from three or four hundred dollars to upwards of five thousand dollars for a quality boat. Small bass boats can come in many forms from canoes and kayaks to pontoons and float tubes (both inflatable and hard plastic). These boats can be great for bass fishing' 'angling. Before you make a purchase though, make sure that you small boat has these 3 things.

* Plenty Of "Leg Room" - Many small bass boats don't have any room to store rods, reels, tackle, and/or bait. Make sure that your small fishing' 'angling boat isn't made for people who don't fish. Many inflatable canoes for example are made for shooting whitewater, rather than fishing' 'angling. Some inflatable pontoons have very little room for tackle, whereas some have plenty. Just make sure there is room to maneuver for your style of fishing' 'angling.
* Maneuverability - Make sure that the small fishing boat you choose is easy to maneuver. For example, some small pontoon boats (both inflatable and hard plastic) are very difficult to maneuver. Maneuverability is very important when it comes to small bass boats. You want to be able to easily get to where the bass are.
* Quality Workmanship - This is probably the most important aspect of any small fishing' 'angling boat. Of all of the small bass boats on the market today, Sea Eagle makes some of the best. Buying your small fishing' 'angling boat from a quality manufacturer is of the utmost importance. Outcast is another company known for their quality workmanship. The bottom line is that when it comes to investing in small boats, purchasing a quality product is key. A high quality small fishing' 'angling boats will last for a lifetime.

Make sure that whatever small boat you choose has the 3 features and you'll be happy with your decision for many years to come. When it comes to small bass boats there are many things to consider, but these are three of the most important.

Basic Fishing' 'Angling Rules 101

Basic Fishing' 'Angling Rules 101

Going out on a boat with a friend

Thank them for taking you out. Boats are really expensive to run, so be willing to chip in on gas, food, drinks, boat ramp fees and anything else needed for the trip. Honestly, the more you chip in on the trip, the more likely that they will ask you to go out again.

* The number one rule on the boat is that the Captain makes the rules on their boat, not you. If you want to make the rules, go buy your own boat.

* Ask where the owner/Captain of the boat wants you to fish. For instance, in the case of flats boats and bass boats, the Captain has the right to the front.

* Don't tell the Captain where to fish, or it may be a long swim back to shore! If they ask you for your advice, and you actually have some knowledge of the fishing' 'angling area, then go ahead and give it; but do it in a nice way, and educate them on what you know. On the other hand, if you don't know the area, then keep your mouth shut. Let them be the Captain.

* Never take control of the boat unless you are asked to. Remember the store adage that if you break it, you buy it!

Charter Boats

* The Captain makes the rules, but you don't buy the gas and pay the ramp fees. It is still a good idea to bring some drinks and food, unless the boat supplies these things included with the fee you pay.

* Always tip at the end of the trip. These guys work their butts off to try and get their customers on some fish every day, and have spent countless hours getting their boats ready for your fishing trip.

Going out on your own boat

* Wait your turn when putting your boat into the water at a boat ramp, and don't crowd the people in front of you. When you do get into the water, get your boat out of the way, so that others can also get their boats in.

* If someone is in your fishing' 'angling spot, look at how they are fishing' 'angling - Are they anchored, or are they working along a sand bar or structure like mangroves or rocks? If they are anchored, just give them space to fish. If they are moving, do not put yourself in front of them. Go behind them and work the same area. There can still be fish there; you never know.

* If you're fishing' 'angling in an area and someone is fishing behind you, do not crank up your engine and go out of there like you're the lord of the water. You just blew out that fishing' 'angling area for that guy. You know you would not like it to be done to you.

* If you see someone fishing' 'angling, do not come up on him or her wide open, and then at the last minute, kill your engine. Come in slowly. Look at what they are doing. If you see them catching fish, idle in, but do not cross their fishing' 'angling area.

* If you see people kayak fishing along the mangroves, do not drive your boat in between them and the mangroves.

Onshore fishing' 'angling

* The number one rule is do not ever walk up to someone and just start fishing' 'angling right next to them - ever. If there is a limited fishing' 'angling area, then ask nicely if it would be ok to fish nearby.

* Observe how the people around you are fishing' 'angling. If they are using lures, they are going to be fishing over a larger area than someone with bait, so give them their space. Even if it means that you have to find another place to fish - they were there first. If they are fishing' 'angling with live bait, they do not need as much room - still ask permission to fish nearby.

* On fishing' 'angling piers or rock jetty's, it is kind of rude to fish with lures unless the fish are right in front of you and you are not casting in a clockwise manner. Fishing' 'angling piers and rock jetty's are very limited on room, so you don't have much choice on where you can fish. However, that does not mean that you shouldn't still ask before you start to fish if you have to fish next to someone. It is just courteous to do so. If you're already there, and someone wants to fish next to you, try to be nice. If there is room, then great; if not, explain why, but be nice about it. This also goes for fishing' 'angling off bridges.

Nets

* Do not ever, I mean ever, throw a cast net where someone is fishing' 'angling. The only time that this is ok is if you asked permission and received it. When you do this, you kill that fishing' 'angling spot, because any fish that were anywhere near that spot are now spooked away from it.

* If you're after bait, try to find a spot away from other people, and also away from where you're going to be fishing' 'angling. In the case of a bridge or fishing pier, you have limited space. However, most of the time, people are fishing' 'angling away from the pier or bridge and casting a net straight down is no big deal. If possible though, find an area where no one is fishing' 'angling.

* Look where you are throwing your cast net! Don't throw it onto an oyster bed or rocks where the net is going to get all tangled up and destroyed. I can't tell you how many times that I have seen dead animals tangled in cast nets that were left in the water because the fisherman didn't look before they threw. If you do end up doing this, take the time to remove it for the safety of the fish and other wildlife.

What this all really comes down to is that you shouldn't do something that you know you would not like done to you. We are all out there to have fun and enjoy the great sport of fishing' 'angling. So respect the other fishermen around you. Share your knowledge with others so that people learn how to be better fishing' 'angling advocates, and more respectful individuals. Fishing' 'angling is a great sport and needs to be treated that way. It's up to all of us to teach others the proper fishing' 'angling etiquette.

Trout fishing' 'angling: Level Up

Trout fishing' 'angling: Level Up

If you've been trout fishing' 'angling for a few years, you're probably interested in taking your trout fishing' 'angling to the next level. Some trout fishing' 'anglers aren't interested in such things and are fine with just catching eight to fifteen inch trout. For those of you who want to do better, as in catching more and larger trout, this article is for you.

Trout, particularly larger more experienced trout, have become that way for a couple of reasons, and one of those reasons isn't being stupid. They have been caught before, and have lived in their particular river or stream for an extended period of time. This means they are weary of certain things and they are very familiar with their surroundings.

To take your trout fishing' 'angling to the next level you need to be aware of both of these points, and begin to use them to your advantage. Let's begin with the trout's environment. When fishing' 'angling for trout you want to stay out of the trout's view as much as is imaginable. Remember, if you can see a trout, it can more than likely see you, and if larger trout can see you that are much less apt to bite your offering.

You also want to pay attention to where your shadow is being cast on sunny days. You never want to cast a shadow on the area that you're attempting to fish. This is a sure fire way to "spook" an area and not catch the larger trout. Another thing to keep in mind is the color of your clothing. You don't want to wear colors that will make you stand out.

As I said, larger more knowledgeable trout (which is what we're looking for) have been caught before and have become weary of certain things. Like my mentor used to say, "Trout don't eclipse the twenty inch mark by being dumb." Always want to make sure that you use thin diameter fishing line when trout fishing' 'angling. I have always used four pound test Stren monofilament and have found that anything over six pound test is a big mistake when fishing' 'angling for trout.

The next thing to consider is the way in which your bait is being presented. I have found that worms are great trout bait and presenting them properly is of the utmost importance. When taking your trout fishing' 'angling to the next level balling a worm onto a hook simply won't cut the mustard. Natural presentation of worms is very important. Large trout want their meal to appear as it would in a natural situation. Gang hooks accomplish this task.

Start implementing these simple tips into your trout fishing' 'angling arsenal and you will begin taking your trout fishing' 'angling to the next level. And remember there is no substitute for spending time on the water honing your skills. Spend as much time on the river as you can if you want to become a more successful trout fisherman. There is simply no substitute for practice.

Pike Fishing' 'Angling Tips and Tricks

Pike Fishing' 'Angling Tips and Tricks

Pike fishing' 'angling is one of the styles of fishing' 'angling that is very popular in North America, everyone in the United States and Canada Fish for Pike. It is also commonly done in the spring and summer although some fishermen will do it in the winter as well.

When fishing' 'angling for Pike there is a few things that you need to keep in mind. You need to know what exact type of bait to use and how to set the hook. There are also many different species of pike and this can get a little bit confusing if you do not know the difference between them.

There are three main types of pikes called Pickerel, Northern Pike, and Muskellunge. If you are fishing' 'angling for a definite species of pike then it is a good idea to do a little bit of research so that you can find out the features of each character of fish.

Lures and Bait

When trying to pick the right type of bait, I find that minnows and smaller fish work very well for pike. Rapalas are good if you are fishing' 'angling for those big ones as well.

Generally live bait is what you want to use. You could also apply jigs and worms for the smaller pike as I have had lots of success with these as well. Pike are not picky eaters so a assortment of lures are going to work for you. You just need to experiment and see what one is going to work best.

As I mentioned before, the spring is generally the best time to fish for pike. This is when they are first starting to come out from the winter and start to feed. I have noticed that the fish bite better in the spring than any other season.

Brook Trout fishing' 'angling

Brook Trout fishing' 'angling

Brook Trout fishing' 'angling is a magical experience when you are out there on the river with no one around for miles. It's just you and the river. Look out trout. Whether it be fishing' 'angling for the colorful speckled trout to the beauteous rainbow to the powerful brown trout, it is still just you and the river. If that's not the case then find a river or lake that is.

When dust hits and the trout are jumping your nerves feel like steel and the child inside you is jumping with it. You fumble for the best fly, tie up and cast out your best line and hope that little sucker will take. Seconds go by and you wonder what has gone wrong, "What Should I Have Done Better", "Is this the right Fly". Well too many times I have been in this situation. Fishing' 'angling for Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout whatsoever it might be, get the right advice and tips. I can't say that enough. Trout fishing' 'angling tips and mysteries is something that you should always update and take out the next time you go fishing' 'angling.

Fly fishing' 'angling is my favorite and the right fly can be a nightmare to decide on. Well try out this. Pick your fly and say this. "This Is The Fly I'm Using And I Am Going To Catch A Fish". Be positive. It works! My Best Trout fishing' 'angling happens when I'm expecting this part of the river has a fish in it and I'm going to get that little sucker, regardless of what fly I have.

Discovering the correct Custom fishing' 'angling Shirt

Discovering the correct Custom fishing' 'angling Shirt

Fishing' 'anglers everywhere are always looking for the perfect fishing' 'angling shirt that they can customize with their boat name or company name, favorite fish, and so on.

There are many different factors to look at when choosing the right shirt.

1) Fabric: For years cotton was the fabric of choice. I was one of the fishing' 'anglers that had to have cotton until I finally broke down and tried a cotton/poly blend. The 100% cotton gets wet and heavy with perspiration in warm climes, doesn't dry leading to a wet, soggy, uncomfortable shirt. The cotton/poly blending fabric, slightly brushed, tapers away moisture and dries quickly creating constant comfort. I've also found that the blend works better in cooler climes because it cuts the wind, cold better. Seems strange that a fabric can breathe less but stay cooler as it cuts the wind and cold but it does.

2) Style/Cut: So many different factors here. Body shape, type of fishing' 'angling, are just two factors but gets you thinking in the right direction. A shirt that is cut generous is the key. Too many fishing' 'angling shirts are cut with what I call a corporate cut. It limits movement. We aren't wearing these to the prom or to flex in. We want a shirt that we can cast a fly, flip a surface plug, run up and the down the boat with no limitation of movement.

Taller or bigger fishing' 'anglers want a shirt length that is adequate. So many are cut short. This leads to the shirt constantly coming untucked. The way the bottom of the shirt is cut ties into this as well. If the shirt is cut straight across the bottom with V vents cut on each side the angler can wear it out or tuck it in.

Sleeve length is significant. Find a shirt that has ample sleeve length.

Double roll up collars come in very handy as an extra sun/neck protector.

Plentiful pockets but not big bellowing haphazard pockets are also key.

Last but not least the vent in the back needs to be large to accommodate 2 things, big back custom embroidery and maximum air flow. So many so called fishing shirts have small vents that are not embroiderable and do not breathe well.

Avoid zippers and the such that corrode and add weight to the shirt.

All fabric limits/restricts UV. None totally blocks it.

3) custom-making: From the very beginning days of golf shirts with an alligator, to polo players, embroidery/logo's have always been on the left chest. You can tell a fishing' 'angling shirt manufacturer that does not think about where a customized embroidered logo is going to be put when the left side is not left unencumbered. When you see a fishing' 'angling shirt with the velcro tab (actually a rod tip holder) on the left side it does not embroider well. When the logo is placed above that tab it is too high on the shirt and looks odd. Find a shirt with the rod tip holder/velcro tab on the right side. A persons name, ie. Captain John, fit's okay above the right side tab but anything more is too high. Left chest with no tab is correct.

Encountering a embroidery company with fish that appear anatomically correct is the other hardship. So many people in the embroidery business want to put fish on a shirt but have no idea what the fish should look like or it's colors. They know nothing about fish/fishing' 'angling. Find a company that loves it's fish as much as you do. Then it'll be right. Also make sure you can add some text to you fish of choice without breaking the bank.

In conclusion when looking for a nice, custom embroidered fishing' 'angling shirt with your boat or company name, pay attention to these 3 things listed above and you will end up with a comfortable, good looking garment.

Fishing' 'Angling Tackle

Fishing' 'Angling Tackle

Whether fishing' 'angling for trout or one of the many types of coarse fish found in UK waters, you can save a great deal of money on your hobby by making your own fishing' 'angling tackle and baits. Even better, you can make exactly what you need for any given angling situation. Once the only way to get the equipment necessary for fishing' 'angling, home-made fishing' 'angling supplies are increasing in popularity as the best way to get high-quality bait and tackle on a budget.

Perhaps the most commonly home-made fishing' 'angling supply is bait. The "boilies" that are most popular among UK's carp fishers are very commonly made at home. In fact, it's not uncommon for old-time carpers to refuse shop-bought baits entirely and use only boilies they've made themselves. Other types of home-brewed baits include tending your own worm bin or mixing up leftover food scraps and molasses as "ground-bait"

If you're just getting started with building your own baits, experts advocate that you pay more attention to what is palatable to the fish rather than what sort of nutrition you think they ought to have. How a bait performs in the water is also very important. The use of egg, molasses and other binding agents will keep a home-made fishing bait from falling off the hook or disintegrating too quickly.

One of the most commonly made types of fishing' 'angling tackle are flies. It is a point of honor among many fly fishing' 'anglers to craft their own, with little more than bits of feather and string. Floating lures can be carved from balsa wood and spoons fashioned from old silverware or other scrap.

Nylon and metal leaders are also a commonly home-made type of fishing' 'angling tackle. These have the advantage of allowing you to choose exactly the type of leader you'll use, allowing you to change your hook presentation depending upon what type of water you'll be working and the species of interest.

Though lead angling weights are now banned, you can still make your own leads in any shape or size in other materials. One of the most commonly used is concrete. You can use just about anything that is easy to cast and reasonably heavy, though your casting may be altered, depending upon the difference in density of materials used.

One can even make their own rod. Fly fishing' 'angling rods are the most commonly made, as there's no complicated reel involved. One may purchase a "blank" rod and customize it to your purpose and preferred action. While they may also be carved from a tree branch, this is far less commonly done.

While you may still find yourself purchasing components such as hooks and wire from a fishing' 'angling tackle shop, you can save a great deal of money and increase your enjoyment of angling by making your own baits and tackle.

Black Bass fishing' 'angling

Black Bass fishing' 'angling

There are only three black bass fishing' 'angling rigs that need to be learned. Just handle these three and the bass will be coming into the cooler, quickly. Bass fishing' 'anglers all to often seem to have the enthusiasm to get themselves all juiced up for a big day of fishing' 'angling only to find themselves coming in at the end of the day with only one or two bass. That is sad, pathetic and virtually unnecessary. Why go through all that time and labor, preparation to just come back with one or even two bass? Not worth the time my bass hunting friend. There is a better way and I will tell you right about now.

But before I do that, let me say a few things about why the bass fishermen of the world fail when they go fishing. What most bass fisherman do is spend the day casting, re-rigging, running, and loosing lures all the while getting frustrated because the fish aren't cooperating. Sound familiar? It should and do not be embarrassed or proud, I am not your girlfriend. I surely know this feeling and any angler reading my article has had the same feeling at some point and time. The lonely belief is not true. We have all been in this precise same position, alone struggling with no one to turn to. Well, those days are coming to an end, don't feel bad if this does happen to you because you are definitely not alone. One of the most important variables of bass fishing' 'angling is the art of rig selection.

Three rigs are all you will ever need and here they are; Texas rig, Carolina rig, and the floating rig. These three rigs are probably the most successful lures for catching largemouth bass an fishing' 'angler can use just about anywhere, anytime. Guaranteed my bass fishing buddies. Now, some fishing' 'anglers may ask, "Why would I use all three of these rigs?". The answer is really quite simple. It's like using tools of the trade. A carpenter wouldn't use a hammer to back out a screw, nor would he or she use a screwdriver to pound nails. Well, at least most of them wouldn't! The same goes with bass fishing' 'angling. An fishing' 'angler should have the right tools of the trade to do a specific job.

The first rig and probably the most used in the entire bass fishing' 'angling world, is the famed Texas rig. This is the only one I will describe in detail since really it will work for any type of bass fishing' 'angling. It is a simple rig that can be tied in a hurry. This rig has landed more bass than any other rig around, and I use it almost religiously. To rig a Texas rig you will need a line, hook, and sinker. That's it. The steps are easy, like I said. First, you put your sinker (usually a bullet-shaped slip sinker) onto the line with the smaller point of the weight going on first or "facing up." Then tie your hook (usually an offset worm hook) to the end of the line. Now you are ready for the live bait or even a jig. It does not matter, this Texas rig works for both live and artificial baits. A real winner! The other two rigs are fine but do not compare to the versatility of the Texas. The Carolina and the floater are good rigs and have their spots in bass fishing' 'angling, just not here.

Tips on beginning in Carp Fishing' 'Angling

Tips on beginning in Carp Fishing' 'Angling

Over the years the technology used in fishing' 'angling alone has become more and more advanced. Rods have improved with the introduction of carbon where originally they were made from slit cane and then glass fiber. When introducing carbon fiber the rods have become lighter an more responsive and as such today they are a joy to use enabling the fishing' 'angler to tell what the river or lake bottom consists of such as gravel, silt or weed.

Rods Rods come in a variety of test curves and depending what type of fishing' 'angling the fishing' 'angler is performing, what test curve he will require when selecting his rods. For carp fishing' 'angling the fishing' 'angler will need to choose between 2lb test curve and 3.5lb test curve with the later usually being associated with longer distance fishing' 'angling. There are many manufacturers of fishing' 'angling rods in the market place, however if getting started there are some fantastic rods by Fox that start around £50.00 which will give the fishing' 'angler a great starting tool for the job. Most carp fishing' 'anglers will use two main rods of the chosen test curve plus a rod of about 3.5lb to 4lb for a marker rod and a rod about 5lb test curve to use as a spod rod. The spod rod is used to cast a cage full of bait to the chosen spot where the fishing' 'angler is wishing to fish. The marker rod is set up with a very buoyant float that comes to the surface to give the angler a target to cast to both with the spod rod and the actual fishing' 'angling rods.

Fishing reels fishing reels again are usually the preference of the fishing' 'angler abut for general fishing' 'angling a fishing reel utilising the bait runner system is a great way to start fishing' 'angling as the bait runner can be turned on and the line becomes free running should the fishing' 'angler get a run from a taking fish without the worry that he will have his rod puller from the rod rest and into the lake. One such fishing reel would be the Shimano XTEA fishing reels. If the fishing' 'angler is looking for for distance casting reels the it is advised to buy the big pit style of fishing reel which has a more friendly shaped spool which will enable longer casts such as the Daiwa Entoh.

Bite Alarms: Over the years the technology used for bite alarms has increased and as such there are now some absolutely wonderful alarms on the market from the basic Rom Thompson alarms to the top of the range ones from both Fox and Delkim. Again individual preference is the fishing' 'anglers choice but a personal choice for the author is the Delkim TXI system that even incorporates an anti theft alarm should someone try and steal them on the bank.

Rod Rests: Something to bear in mind when choosing rod rest or rod pods is weight. Something that is the bugbear of all fishing' 'anglers is the amount of weight you will be carrying along the banks of the river or lake. Rod rests and pods come from the very cheap and nasty to costing over £300.00. The more you pay the better. Although only rests or pods, you should buy better quality as they could last a lifetime rather than bending or rusting the first time you use them.

Unhooking Mats: When you start carp fishing' 'angling always Acquire and use an unhooking mat that will keep you captures safe from damage that could result in laying them straight onto the bank. Manufacturers such as nash now make excellent unhooking mats that are both large enough to hold the largest carp in British waters but also thick enough that they feel like a bed. Which ever you choose make sure it is as big as you can get.

Glasses: If you are looking at fishing' 'angling seriously, you will need to invest in a good set of polarizing sunglasses. Most tackle manufacturers make a number of types of glasses, however the author would recommend getting sunglasses from a company that specializes in sunglasses as they can be tailored for your individual eyes should you be needing prescription ones and if not the glasses company will still have your eyes as there main focus unlike buying over the counter ones that are just manufactured in their thousands to meet demand.
